Top 4 Things The New Renault Duster Needs to Succeed
  • India unveil tomorrow
  • Will be followed by a three-row vehicle in 2027

The new Renault Duster will be unveiled tomorrow, with a launch expected before the end of this financial year. This is the most important car for the French automaker since its arrival in India nearly two decades ago, and is expected to be the engine of their future success. We have already seen the global-spec Duster and driven its Dacia sibling, and you can check them out at the bottom of this story. However, while the global Duster is a competent product, the India-spec model is entering a very competitive and demanding segment, which means Renault needs to get certain elements on point to ensure the car will do what's expected of it. Here are four things that we think Renault needs to include with the Duster to make its mark.

Interior Steering Wheel

Vast Feature List

In this segment, there is no doubt that the Hyundai Creta is the segment standard when it comes to features. Therefore, Renault needs to match up to the Creta in terms of comfort features. This list includes connected car technology, panoramic sunroof, powered seats, LED light package, dual digital screens, and a powered tailgate.

Level 2 ADAS

This has now become the norm in the segment and is an expected element when you are paying this type of money for an SUV. However, just Level 2 ADAS is not sufficient. The Duster needs to include rear alerts and GPS-linked ADAS functions that Hyundai offers on the Creta Electric. Having this ADAS option on multiple variants rather than the top-spec model, could play out in Renault's favour.

Exterior Right Front Three Quarter

Diversity in Powertrains

While Renault has made it clear that it is not returning to the diesel market, having multiple powertrain options will allow it to spread out its variants, and rope in a larger set of buyers. The car is expected to start its innings with turbo petrol, before a hybrid follows suit later in the year.

Sub-Rs. 11 Lakh Pricing

Given its size and position, we expect Renault to have a sub-Rs. 11 lakh entry-level price, and this would put it in the league of the higher end of sub-compact SUVs, essentially offering a larger car for small-car money. No diesel means Renault will have a sub-Rs. 20 lakh on-road top-end price, something that should make it quite a competitive offering
